Sweet, juicy and delicious, ripe Peaches really are a thing to behold. Their fragrant flesh is a perfect accompaniment to the European summertime when they are at their best.

Approximately the size of a tennis ball; the velvety, red blushed skin covers a delicious yellow flesh that is best eaten when ripe. The optimum would probably be a fruit that feels slightly firm but yields a little under pressure. Like Nectarines, if you need to lean forward or use a napkin you’ve probably got one spot on! Look out for flat/doughnut and white fleshed varieties for a slightly different flavour profile which are becoming increasingly popular amongst Peach lovers.

Available early May through to September from Europe, and December to March from South Africa – though these are often not worth the extra air miles.
