Similar in taste, size and appearance to Peaches, it will come as no surprise that Nectarines are actually just the same fruit, with a gene mutation giving them a smooth skin as opposed to the fuzzy one you find on their sibling. The flesh is perhaps slightly more acidic, but still extremely sweet, fragrant and juicy – a real treat over those peak summer months.

Spanish fruit usually starts around May and will run right through until August/September, with the best fruit coming somewhere in the middle. Keep your eyes peeled for doughnut and white flesh varieties to transform your fruit bowl.
