About our Bananas
Bananas are the UK’s most popular fruit and it’s easy to see why!
Available all year round from tropical and subtropical climates, these tasty treats are packed full of slow release carbs, fibre and potassium, making them a daily essential for many of us. Bananas are thought to have originated in Malaysia around 4000 years ago but fast forward to today and you’ll see most of our crops originate from Central America from countries such as Costa Rica, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
We stick with some of the oldest and most recognised growers, Fyffes and Chiquitas, who’s tried and tested farms are the global benchmark in Banana production. Their fruit is specifically picked from the upper parts of the stem to ensure good size and ripening attributes – you really can taste the difference.
About the Farmer
We always try to get our fresh produce from local farmers, and by using those smaller scale, non-contract farms, it results in a better quality of products for our customers. If we have to adapt to the changing market conditions, we always ensure we use the regional farm network, pick the best quality produce and ensure a fair price is paid through the supply chain to support the British farming community.
