Extended Product Information
About our Clementine Punnet
Another type of Mandarin, perhaps most widely associated with Christmas time where they are often put in children’s stockings, Clementines are a similar size to Satsumas, though they have a deeper coloured skin which is thinner and more tightly bound to the flesh, making them slightly harder to peel (though still easy compared to oranges).
Best when cultivated from Spain over the European winter months, the Fina and Clemenules varieties are the most widely available and are often harvested with the leaves to distinguish from other seasonal citrus. Perhaps the most popular variety is now the Nadorcott, which has good availability throughout the year with shipments coming from both Morocco and Peru depending on season. The Nadorcott is not actually a true Clementine as it is thought to be the result of a Clementine x Murcott hybrid, but is now widely popular due to its high yielding crop, giving uniform, seedless, sweet and easy peeling fruit – the holy grail!
About the Farmer
We always try to get our fresh produce from local farmers, and by using those smaller scale, non-contract farms, it results in a better quality of products for our customers. If we have to adapt to the changing market conditions, we always ensure we use the regional farm network, pick the best quality produce and ensure a fair price is paid through the supply chain to support the British farming community.
